WITH GREAT PROUDNESS, SRI presents to have had the privilege of contributing, in cooperatioon with Bilfinger, to “Project Titanium”, a prestige project for the brand-new FDCA Flagship Plant of Avantium in Delfzijl!
And to this project SRI applied one of her core-competences: welding Titanium.
In the Delfzijl manufacturing plant, Avantium will produce a base material for sustainable plastic, pioneering in renewable chemistry solutions. Due to the solvents used in the process, titanium was selected as material type for the spools, for its capabilities to withstand high levels of acidity, temperature and pressure.
With utmost precision and patience, SRI welded titanium pipes into spools, using a weldingprocess which demands exceptional cleanliness and accuracy. With the backing-gas perfectly covering the process, it prevented the welds to become brittle or even crack.
In total, 20 certified titanium welders and 15 certified titanium fitters completed approximately 3,000(!) welds and assembled all components into spools. After thorough inspections, all welds were approved and the spools were subsequently installed in Avantium’s FDCA Flagship plant.
